God’s Ass?

Book Signing~ Thomas Mcswain
Imagine God having a conversation in Heaven about Ishmael. The angels ask, “Can you believe he just did that?” God responds, “Yeah, he’s an ass!” Ishmael, a wild-ass of a man, has a great start in life as the sole heir to a herding mogul’s fortune until Isaac, the promised successor, is born and displaces him. After Abraham gives Hagar and Ishmael the boot, they find themselves in a pretty prickly predicament. Hagar runs out of resources and places her son underneath a bush in the wilderness. Ishmael may be an ass but he’s God’s ass;God promises to bless Ishmael in spite of his questionable past and reckless tendencies. God specializes in using less than stellar people.

3 Reasons to Have Confidence in Your Struggle

“You can stop counting now. . . come and find me Grandpa!”

“I already see you little boy.”

“How can you see me, Grandpa?”

Unbeknownst to the child, his elderly playmate tried to cover his eyes, but time had curled and gnarled his knuckles bending and altering the natural curve of the hand until fingers stood like solitary bars on a jail cell. Old Arthur Itus (arthritis) plays unfair.

Grandpa’s eyes though confined by the cranial sockets are unhindered by roomy, rheumatoid fingers behind which he is ordered to hide. Though his eyes are behind bars, they can come and go as they please, searching out the hiding places of his grandson.

Likewise, God sees you. His eyes, too, are unhindered by time, space or circumstances. Make no mistake, God isn’t some senile old guy, sitting in the clouds twiddling his fingers nor are his gazing eyes hindered or obstructed by time. You and I can have confidence in our struggles because:

1. Neither turbulence nor turmoil provides sufficient cover to keep us from the all-seeing eyes of God. He sees. Nothing can hide us from His perusing eye.

2. Your position, place, or plight in life does not prevent God from knowing where you are. Indeed He orders your every step.

So, if you are waiting on God to flood into your situation and improve your circumstances but you’ve found that God has not moved, it does not mean He is unaware of your plight, but that your promotion has not been authorized yet.

God always exercises impeccable timing in bringing about a fruitful harvest. Paul agrees:

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Gal. 6:9 ESV).

3. Finally, you can have confidence in your struggle because He knows where you are. Neither season passing nor the bitter sweet presence of old age can thwart the plans of God for your life. He never forsakes the righteous, and He never boots their children out into the streets (Ps. 37:25).

Therefore, He can, at His leisure, eradicate your silent struggle and swiftly transport you to your place of advancement.

So, have confidence in your struggle!

Dig Deep Ditches ~ (Elisha)

Depressed? In a deficit or in a hole? So, what are God’s instructions? “Make this valley full of ditches” (2 Kings 3:16 KJV). Dig ditches? An interesting strategy. So I’m already in a hole in my pursuit of destiny and God wants me to dig a hole? Yes!  Digging ditches is about great expectation. What do you expect from God? Perhaps the journey has worn you down. The act of digging a hole or trusting God’s instructions actually deepens our faith. We must expand our expectation, mature our beliefs, and excavate our faith. The act of digging ditches pushes us to grapple with our boasting, proves to God that we believe Him, prepares the ground for our breakthrough, and points out exactly where God will deposit our blessings. When you dig, when you anticipate in faith, you are not saying that you are the source of the blessing, but that you trust God for the blessing.

Can I Get a Refund?

Have you ever longed for something but once you got it, you didn’t want it anymore? Moses feels your pain. He receives a people and a promotion that costs more than what he budgeted for and asks for a complete refund on his total purchase. Stress plagues Moses until he asks God to take the promotion or kill him! God knows and sympathizes with the weight of a new job. He helps Moses redistribute the load of the promotion. Just as he does for Moses, God enlists people who offer the appropriate help to assist us with the essential tasks of transition
